Ok, so this is my second smoothie post in a row. I admit I’ve been on a smoothie kick lately since I have started exercising more. Since my New Year’s Resolution in January, I veered off the fitness path for a while (5 months), but in July I began again and have been more consistent now than I’ve ever been in my life. It’s refreshing to discover a new layer of myself, and prove that I am capable of more discipline and commitment than I thought possible.
I don’t let the negative things discourage me— the missed workouts, the occasional caloric indulgence, the fat not melting off quite as quickly as I would like— I just keep taking another step toward my goals and focusing on what I have accomplished. As I approach 30, I want to be the best version of myself (physically) and each day I work on that is a mini victory propelling me forward.
I am a sugar-addict by nature, and self-control in this department is so difficult for me. Day by day I am choosing better though. Less treats, smaller portions, smarter substitutions. I’ve considered a “sugar detox” but I don’t think I’m quite ready for that extreme just yet. Smoothies are one of those delightful things that taste amazing and sweet, and I don’t have to feel any “guilt” over drinking one because they can be sweetened with fruit and no added sugar.
This Caribbean Cocktail Smoothie is so creamy, it could almost be fro-yo, and the flavors of mango and coconut make it very “colada” like. Minus the rum of course. 😉 It has fast-burning energy sources like mango and slow-burning energy sources like protein and flax seed.
But let’s talk about the real charmer in this smoothie: full fat coconut milk. Glory, glory, hallelujah. This ingredient is so packed with flavor that you don’t need very much, and the (healthy) fat content makes your smoothie so creamy and satisfying that you could swear it was a “cheat” food. Doesn’t God have the best ideas?
P.S. I recently bought a new blender and I am IN LOVE. I researched for weeks and waited months before buying a blender. I didn’t want a Ninja because I have not had good experience with their customer service or product guarantee and I have heard similar feedback from other Ninja owners. I wanted a powerful blender that had the potential of a Vitamix without the price tag. I kept looking for an appliance that would satisfy multiple needs. I wanted a blender that could also do all the things a food processor could do. Oh yeah, and I wanted it to have smaller smoothie cup blender jars so I could have the option of dirtying a less bulky container. I also wanted it to be mostly dishwasher safe. Sounds like an impossible request right? I thought so too, until I discovered the Oster BLSTVB-103-000 Versa 1100-watt Professional Performance Blender with Two 20-Ounce Blend’N Go Cups. Seriously. All my dreams come true. If I had to find one thing to complain about, it would be that this sucker is loud. But boy does it do a fine job of blending. The shredder and slicing attachments for the food processor bowl are also amazing. If you’ve been looking for the perfect blender/food processor that won’t leave your wallet crying for months, this is it!
