Something about this show soothes me. I’m intrigued, yet somehow lulled into a serene calmness as the soft British accents fall and the pastel palette dances across the screen. It’s mesmerizing. More than once I have contemplated whether it is logistically possible to convert one’s kitchen into a white tent. Sadly, I think the answer there is no, but don’t you just love how it lets so much light in? All my daydreaming about living in the British Bake Off tent did get me thinking about what makes that space so appealing.
The tent is decorated with a harmonious mix of traditional elements, shabby chic, and whimsy. I can’t help but want to have a spring garden tea when I look at some of these items.
All the pastel and natural wood, chicken wire and peeling paint is a sensory dream. Just add a playlist of instrumental music and I’m in kitchen heaven. The hosts and judges must be too, because they always look so relaxed! Well, unless Mary and Paul are disagreeing over who they are saying goodbye to.
If you haven’t had the chance to watch this yet, you simply must! There are several seasons on Netflix currently.
It never ceases to amaze me the way Paul can just look at a pastry or bread and tell you exactly what the baker did wrong. Under-proved. Overworked. Under baked. Over baked. The man knows his flour. If you love to bake, I highly recommend his book (pictured above). He takes you through each region of the United Kingdom and talks about the history of baking in that region and shares recipes that speak to the roots of each region. Really fascinating!
What about you? Do you 😍 the Bake Off tent? What would you add to your kitchen and how do you channel calming bake vibes?
